The second gallery presents the classic sedans of the 60s.
The basic version – a 250 SE W108 – and the long version W109 – a 300 SEL 6.3.
As a student I had two 108: a 250 S (1966) and a 280 S (1970) – but only for a short time, since fuel cost in the late 80s and early 90s were nearly 2,- DM and without the “E” in the type sign the consumption of the 280 was shooting to adventurous heights – well, my car with already 12 owners and 430,000 kilometers had past its prime already…
My 250 was a restoration project from first hand, only 60,000 km – but because of the poor body condition and the necessary time and financial resources I gave up the project. After the W108 two W115 and a W114 followed … better known as /8 (“Slash Eight”).
